Woodfin officials say they're just trying to beat Asheville to the punch with a proposal to annex 3.5 square miles of Erwin Hills and part of Leicester Township.

But since Asheville officials say they have no interest in annexing that area, residents don't think Woodfin is doing them any favors.

When it comes to involuntary annexation, many of these Buncombe County taxpayers don't want to see their tax burdens going up.

"It's just a money grab," said Betty Jackson. "In a down economy, for the Town of Woodfin to ask more money of people is just morally wrong."

Can we please just leave the county-folk alone?  If they don't want to be a part of your city, they shouldn't be forced to.
