At Gettysburg, Lincoln referred to those who died there as giving "the last full measure of devotion" to the cause of liberty. While we have an obligation to remember those who sacrificed their life, we have an equal obligation to remember those who have sacrificed the best years of their life for us.
Most reading this just casted a vote in an open, free, and fair election. You're reading this on a blog with multiple authors - of a differing opinions - written by private citizens without compensation and delivered to you without censorship. I thank God for Jimmy Carter, because he's finally making my life easier.
As a white male who was born in his home state during his Presidency, I've inheirted this awkward history of suspected racism for being a white guy whose family comes from the South while being in the second generation of the New South. For most of my life, merely being accused of racism was an instant indictment with the force of a full conviction.

At the slightest slip or twisted phrase, the accused is often reduced to embarassing stammers and ineffective backpedaling. Being a bigot had a stench that offended not only direct object of the alleged afflicted, but of your peers who want to avoid guilt by association.
Probably having been there himself, Jimmy Carter understands the power of the accusation. That's why he joined a long line of other Lefties in a chorus that is making the once virulent accusation banal and ineffective. Also, it's broad application follows a vein that's becoming all too common.
