The old guard's last breath E-mail
Earlier this month, Greensboro voters delivered a stunning sweep of the mayor's office and a majority of City Council to conservative candidates.

The city's primary online voice of conservatism, the blog of Dr. Joe Guarino, is breaking down the issues piece by piece in recent posts.

Last week, the lame duck council voted to increase funding for a pool project voters twice rejected in bond votes.

The community votes down the proposed facility on two separate bond referenda. But the powers-that-be are not even remotely deterred, and are hell-bent on getting this facility approved against the public's wishes. It was initially conceived as a community swimming pool. The movers nestle and camouflage the proposal in a Parks and Rec bond bond issue; and artfully refrain from mentioning the aquatic center in the language that appears on the ballot. They then strategically refrain from campaigning loudly in support of it, in order to avoid scaring voters away from supporting it.
